A tattoo is a form of body modification that involves inserting indelible ink into the dermis layer of the skin. This is done for a variety of reasons. For some, getting a tattoo is an important event. For others, it can bring on profound regret.
Why Do We Want to Remove it?
Here are some reasons why people choose to remove their tattoos:
How Do We Remove Tattoos?
It is not easy to remove ink particles embedded deep in the skin.
Before the introduction of laser tattoo removal technology, several older mechanical techniques were used. Some of these methods include surgical excision, dermabrasion and tattoo removal creams. The introduction of the traditional nanosecond or Q-switch lasers in the 1990s was considered a revolution in tattoo removal.
Since then, nanosecond or Q-switch lasers were held as the gold standard for tattoo removal. However, not everybody experienced complete clearance of their tattoos using these lasers. The search for a better solution continued.
In 2015, yet another technological breakthrough took place – the introduction of the Picosecond laser. Picosecond lasers are more effective at shattering certain tattoo ink particles, and allow the body to remove them more effectively. Picosecond lasers give doctors more options to deal with stubborn tattoo marks once thought difficult for the older generation of nanosecond lasers.
